Flood Relief for Vermont

On Sunday, August 28th 2011, Tropical Storm Irene dumped over an inch and a half of rain per hour on central Vermont. Towns were prepared for strong winds and flash floods, but no one expected the historic flooding that occured. Rivers that were usually knee-deep swelled to depths of 20 feet within hours. What seemed to be a 'typical spring flood' at the Community of the Crucified One in Moretown turned into a life-threatening situation. Community residents were rescued from the grounds via canoe. Ultimately everyone was safe, but the buildings and belongings were flooded, causing irreparable damage to property.
